By a dedicated team of pediatric physical therapist, pediatric speech therapist, special educator, pediatrician, and parents of children with disabilities, Stepping Stones Pediatric Therapy has grown to be a team of 21 experienced therapists who work together to bring a love for children and progressive, innovative ideas together in order to help our clients achieve their goals.
Since our start, we have opened our spacious, well-equipped clinic with devices such as LiteGait and SoloStep, a wide variety of therapeutic toys and activities, multiple iPads set up for AAC device trials and a large, open sensory room.
We are running multiple skill groups each week and holding monthly developmental screenings, monthly caregiver trainings, and offering weekly respite sessions.
This summer, we introduced therapy intensives to NH with wonderful gains made by each client who participated in an intensive week or multiple weeks of services.
At our clinic, we are now averaging over 360 therapy sessions each month and services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy, augmentative and alternative communication with therapists trained and certified in a wide variety of innovative practices.
All of our therapists offer flexible scheduling to accommodate the needs of families, we work with local childcare centers to offer services in their centers as well as other community locations to help ensure children are able to get the services they need. Therapists and families design a plan for services that is appropriate for each individual; this may mean providing multiple services in a day, overlapping visits to ensure continuity of services for a child or providing services in a community location. As a nonprofit organization, we use donations and grant funds to help ensure that clients can receive the services they need and help to reduce the financial strain on families with limited insurance coverage for services.
We work successfully with several immunocompromised children and ensure that infection prevention is taken seriously by sanitizing each room thoroughly between clients and providing individual treatment spaces whenever needed
Using the SoloStep system with a ceiling track and harness system as well as the LiteGait system, we can ensure extra safety for clients and therapists when working on balance activities as well as allows for safer transfers and standing activities for children and young adults with severe disabilities
Everyone is welcome in our clinic and we work hard to ensure that all clients and families are treated with respect and accepted for who they are; all of our staff are trained in cultural competency and neurodiversity affirming practices.
By providing physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, feeding therapy, respite services and inclusive groups in one location, our staff work closely together as well as collaborate with outside providers to ensure the best progress can be reached. We recently added nutrition support, working with two local dieticians and will be adding music therapy as well as mental health services in the next year.
Siblings and friends as well as caregivers are welcome in our clinic and encouraged to work with us during sessions. We attend community events and provide activities at events that can be enjoyed by all, regardless of the level of disability. We work with clients in the community and create solutions to help address difficulties on a playground, navigating sidewalks, shopping trips or other activities.
Caring for a child with disabilities is hard work and caregivers often have very little support. We provide networking opportunities for caregivers in our groups and trainings and provide scheduled clinic-based respite services to ensure that caregivers can get a break from caregiving.
Children who have significant disabilities are typically able to receive school district services until age 22; at that point they end school services and also become ineligible for most pediatric practices, leaving families struggling to find all new services. Since they are often not able to tolerate a typical adult therapy clinic, many of these young adults are not able to continue therapy services after age 21 and struggle to find safe places to have social opportunities with others. Stepping Stones Pediatric Therapy allows these young adults to resume therapy services with us and our clients can continue services with their current providers to avoid disruptions in services. In order to allow them opportunities to have interactions with peers in a safe manner, we have developed several groups, being held both remotely and in.
